Biologics will account for seven of the top 10 selling drugs in five years and half of the top 100 selling drugs, according to EvaluatePharma. Last year, five of the 10 top selling drugs were biologics and 28% of the top 100 were biologics. Of the biologics in the top 5 in 2014, five are predicted to be monoclonal antibodies (MAbs), including three anti-neoplastic MAbs. In total, sales of biotechnology drugs are estimated to increase 57% to $169 billion between 2008 and 2014. As a percentage of total prescription and over-the-counter drug sales, biotech drugs are expected to increase from 17% in 2008 to 23% by 2014.
