The Boston Business Journal reported in October that EMD Millipore is moving its membrane manufacturing for drug discovery, filtration and research from Bedford, Massachusetts, to Ireland, affecting 75 employees.
Johnson Matthey acquired the Pharmorphix solid form research business from Sigma-Aldrich in October.
Phenomenex’s PhenoLogix in-house analytical services group opened a 9,000 ft2 dedicated facility. PhenoLogix grew out of Phenomenex’s R&D department.
Guo Bing resigned from Techcomp’s Board in October.
Oxford Instruments announced that Kevin Boyd, finance director, will resign, effective April 16, to become finance director at Spirax-Sarco Engineering.
In November, Oxford Instruments announced that Board Chairman Nigel Keen will retire in September 2016 and that COO Dr. Ian Barkshire joined the Board.
In October, Sigma-Aldrich announced a strategic collaboration agreement with the University of California, San Francisco’s Catalyst Program. A Sigma representative will participate in reviewing and consulting for projects in the Catalyst Awards program, which funds students who wish to move their translational research into product development.

Analytik Jena opened a Swiss branch office on the premises of Endress+Hauser in Reinach in October.
A. Barry Rand retired from Agilent Technologies’ Board in October. The Board now has 10 members.
In November, Agilent Technologies announced a formal agreement with Thermo Fisher Scientific to exchange instrument-control drive documentation and software for LCs, GCs, capillary electrophoresis and ICs. The companies will also provide technical assistance to each other’s software development groups for CDS software.
In November, Shimadzu Scientific Instruments (SSI) announced the opening of the 2,000 ft2 Shimadzu Laboratory for Advanced Applied and Analytical Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee, made possible by a $1.13 million grant. The facility features a number of SSI instruments, including six MS systems.
The Corning Life Sciences Asia distribution center opened in November in the Yangshan Free Trade Port Area in Shanghai, China. It is the result of an agreement with logistics firm Kuehne + Nagel.
Third quarter sales for Mettler-Toledo’s Lab business fell 1% to account for 47% of revenues. Excluding currency, Lab sales grew 7%, including over 200 basis points from pricing. Growth was strong across all Lab businesses, except for AutoChem due to several large orders last year. Lab US sales were particularly strong, while growth is China slowed due to a strong AutoChem comparison, and sales in Brazil and Russia declined.
