In August, Agilent Technologies gave an Agilent Thought Leader Award to Dr. Emmanuel Barillot, director of Bioinformatics and Systems IT at the Institute Curie in Paris, in recognition of his development of user friendly, Web-based bioinformatics tools for systems toxicology.
Agilent Technologies opened in August the $25 million Spectroscopy Technology Innovation Center in Mulgrave, Australia, which houses research and testing labs, as well as customer demonstration and training facilities.
India’s Business Standard reported in September that Agilent Technologies partnered with health care firm Trivitron Healthcare and will provide the company with analytical instruments for a lab at the IIT Chennai Science Park for the development of diagnostic kits.
In October, Agilent Technologies awarded Dr. Guibin Jiang, director of the State Key Lab of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology and the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, an Agilent Thought Leader Award.
PAC, a Roper Industries company, named Keith Barnard president in September. He previously held several positions at Flowserve, including vice president of Manufacturing and vice president of China Operations.
In September, Xylem announced the immediate appointment of Steven R. Loranger as CEO and president. He was chair, president and CEO of ITT when it spun its water businesses off as Xylem (see IBO 1/15/11). The Board is initiating a search for the next CEO.
Xylem signed a cooperation agreement in October with WaTech, the technology development center of Mekorot, Israel’s national water company, to evaluate new water technologies and accelerate product commercialization.
Illumina named Dr. Richard Klausner senior vice president and chief medical officer in September. Previously, he was managing partner of The Column Group.
In September, Transgenomic appointed Paul Kinnon president, CEO and director. He previously served as president and CEO of ZyGEM.
The Board of Pall elected Larry Kingsley chairman in October.
In October, Pall opened the Pall Life Sciences Center of Excellence at its Zhangjiang site in Shanghai, China. The new site offers biopharmaceutical process solutions, technical and validation support, and training.
Analytik Jena announced the repurchase of all of the shares of project firm AJZ Engineering. The purchase price was used to repay existing liabilities. Analytik Jena plans to focus on AJZ’s core business in Russia and Germany and sell parts of the company and its assets.
Roche’s third quarter sales for life science qPCR and Nucleic Acid Purification Systems grew 7% at constant exchange rates.
GE Healthcare’s third quarter Life Sciences revenue increased 10%, according to its conference call.
