Staffan Lindstrand, partner at HealthCap, resigned from Biotage’s Board in October. HealthCap sold its shares in Biotage in August.
In November, Waters launched the Centers of Innovation Program to support scientific innovation in the fields of health and life science research, sports science, food safety, clinical research and environmental protection. The company announced partnerships with Professors Jeremy Nicholson, John Engen, James Scrivens and Julie Leary.
Bio-Rad Laboratories announced on its third-quarter conference call that an internal control assessment by management and an internal audit group found three significant differences in internal controls over financial reporting as of September 30 (see IBO 5/15/10). It is anticipated that the material weakness will not have any material effect on previous reported financials for the third quarter.
Mettler-Toledo’s third-quarter Laboratory sales grew 15%, 16% in local currency, to make up 46% of company revenues. Acquisitions contributed 1% to growth.
Agilent announced a multiyear agreement with the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University to advance its technological capabilities in genome engineering, nanobiotechnology and mechanobiology. They will develop new integrated force analysis and imaging capabilities that combine advanced optics and nanomechanical measurements.
Agilent renewed and expanded its agreement with the Academy for Medical Development and Collaboration for advanced technology access and discounted pricing on genomics and proteomics research products.
In November, AMETEK acquired Atlas Material Testing Technology, a provider of weathering test instruments and related testing and consulting services, for $159 million in cash. The business joins the AMETEK Measurement & Calibration Technologies business.
Analytik Jena AG named Torsten Olschewski Business Unit Head for Analytical Instrumentation, effective October 1. The position includes responsibility for R&D, sales, product management, and marketing and services.
Sigma-Aldrich appointed Kirk Richter interim CFO in November. He also continues to serve as vice president and treasurer.
John A. Roush, PerkinElmer senior vice president and president of Environmental Health, plans to resign by year end. He will join GSI Group as CEO.
Diploma Life Sciences’ revenues for the fiscal year ending September 30 rose 11.0% to £55.4 million ($86.2 million) (see IBO 12/15/10). In constant currency, sales rose 1%. Adjusted operating profit increased 12.3% to £11.9 million ($18.5 million). Revenue for a1-group increased 7%, with a1-envirosciences sales up 5% and CBISS sales up 15%.
Anton Paar GmbH will set up a new center in Graz, Austria, for nanoanalytics, intelligent sensor and spectroscopic methods.
