PAC opened a technical facility in Shanghai, China’s pilot free-trade zone in October. The company also has a sales office in Shanghai.
Third quarter organic sales for Danaher’s Life Science business grew in the low single digits, as positive demand in the US and Western Europe was hindered by funding delays in China. AB SCIEX sales grew in the mid-single digits organically, driven by academic, clinical and applied markets. Leica Microsystems sales grew in the low single digits organically, with double-digit sales growth for confocal-microscopy systems. Organic revenue for Water Quality grew in the mid-single digits, led by analytical instrumentation and chemical-treatment solutions. Hach revenue improved due to higher sales in North America and Europe as well as double-digit growth in China.
Third quarter GE Healthcare Life Sciences equipment orders grew 15%, according to GE’s conference call. GE Life Sciences expects 2014 sales of around $4 billion.
In the third quarter, Sigma-Aldrich announced a facility-consolidation restructuring plan in Europe that is expected to impact 80 employees, according to an SEC filing.
In October, PerkinElmer expanded its collaboration with ASAN Medical Centre and the Center for Bioimaging of New Drug Development in Seoul, South Korea to include in vivo and in vitro molecular-imaging instruments. The relationship began in 2012 with a focus on translational medicine research for oncology.
Thermo Fisher Scientific dedicated in October the $85 million, 350,000 ft2 Niche Diagnostics Center of Excellence in Fremont, California. The facility has more than 500 employees who develop and manufacture assays for therapeutic drug monitoring, drugs-of-abuse screening and other ready-to-use tests.
This summer, QIAGEN named Dr. Laura Furmanski to the newly created position of senior vice president of Bioinformatics. She was previously with McKinsey & Company. In October, the company named Manuel O. Mendez as senior vice president of Global Commercial Operations. He most recently served as Americas senior vice president at bioMeriéux.
Third quarter revenue for Xylem’s Test business grew 4%.
In October, Sartorius officially opened a 2,600 ft2 application center at its Shanghai, China, office.
Bruker announced in November on its third quarter conference call that, due to changing demand (see IBO 11/30/14), its BioSpin Group is implementing organization changes, including the creation of two new divisions: Applied, Industrial and Clinical, and Service and Life Cycle Support. The company also plans to “right size” the BioSpin Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy’s cost structure in early 2015.
Harvard Bioscience named Bertrand Loy to its Board in November. He is president and CEO of Entegris.
