Bruker named Juergen Srega president of the Bruker CALID Group in January. He served as vice president and general manager, Biomarkers, at BRAHMS, a Thermo Fisher Scientific company, from 2011 to 2012.

In March, Veolia Environnement and bioMérieux announced a research partnership to develop an innovative technology for the continuous monitoring of the microbiological quality of drinking water.

Analytik Jena established a subsidiary in France at the beginning of the year.

Life Technologies announced it plans to invest $18 million in a multiphase plan to expand its facility in Pleasanton, California, where it will implement cGMP capabilities for its genetic analysis products.

In March, Halozyme Therapeutics named Matt Posard, senior vice president and general manager of Translational & Consumer Genetics at Illumina, to its Board.

Pall appointed Akhil Johri CFO, effective May 1. He was formerly vice president of Finance and CFO for United Technologies Propulsion & Aerospace Systems.

Shimadzu established in April a wholly owned sales company in Taiwan. Shimadzu aims to have 2017 sales of analytical and measuring instruments of $13 million in Taiwan, compared with $4.5 million in 2012. The company aims to have 2013 sales of $5.8 million.

In April, Shimadzu opened Laboratory World at its European headquarters in Duisburg, Germany. The over 1,500-square-meter facility houses the firm’s range of analytical instruments. The lab and training facility expansion represented a €3.2 million ($4.2 million) investment.

Rockwell Automation named Lawrence D. Kingsley, president and CEO of Pall, to its Board in April.

Pall plans to open in mid-2013 a Life Sciences Centre of Excellence at its new Harbourgate site in Portsmouth, UK. It will include a 4000-square-meter scientific area.

PerkinElmer announced in April a collaboration with China’s National Center for Drug Screening to establish a personalized drug R&D platform that will validate biomarkers for individualized disease treatment for Chinese patients. The program includes sequencing patient samples in order to establish genomic information for drug profiling and a study on metabolic diseases to validate new diagnostics for the Chinese populations through utilizing next-generation sequencing technologies.

In April, Halma appointed Paul Walker to its Board. He was previously with The Sage Group.

In April, Hitachi High-Technologies established an Indian subsidiary in Gurgaon, with 12 employees.

Product Introductions

Sigma-Aldrich launched the Vetec brand product line, comprised of more than 400 lab reagents, in India in April.
