In August, Danaher acquired Hangzhou Dingli Environmental, a Chinese distributor of Hach products for online water quality instrumentation.
In September, Pall announced that its New England Life Sciences Center of Excellence in Westborough, Massachusetts, will open in spring 2013. The 113,000-square-foot facility will provide a range of process solutions. Existing operations in Northborough, Massachusetts, will be transferred to the new facility.
Thermo Fisher Scientific officially opened its 15,000-square-foot Molecular Biology Center of Excellence in Vilnius, Lithuania, in September. The facility provides R&D and manufacturing capabilities for molecular, protein and cellular biology products for Eastern Europe. It holds 400 research, lab and manufacturing personnel.
In September, Life Technologies announced the completion of a manufacturing facility in Beijing, China, for DNA testing kits.
Sigma-Aldrich elected Michael Marberry, president and CEO of J.M. Huber, to its Board in September.
In September, Bruker officially opened its redesigned Centre of Excellence in Coventry, UK, which houses integrated demonstration labs, sales and applications offices, and customer collaboration and service facilities.
In October, data analytics firm CollabRx announced a multiyear partnership agreement with Life Technologies to develop and commercialize its technology and content resources to be used in conjunction with Life Technologies’ cancer diagnostics development and laboratory developed test services, including next-generation sequencing.
Analytik Jena officially opened in October its international analytic competence center in Moscow, Russia. A shared project with Russian sales partner InterLab, it is located in the Moscow Zelinsky Institute for Organic Chemistry at the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Becton, Dickinson and Company announced in October that David V. Elkins, executive vice president and CFO, will leave the company in November to pursue an entrepreneurial opportunity. Suketu Upadhyay, senior vice president and controller, was named interim CFO.
In October, Agilent Technologies and the University of Houston’s Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences announced a three-year collaboration to study the geology and composition of crude oil, including a focus on shale gas.
Roche Diagnostics’ third-quarter Applied Science sales declined 2%, 5% in constant exchange rates, to CHF 535 million ($573 million). Custom Biotech and Other sales both declined 5%, and Genomic Analysis sales fell 21%. QPCR & NAP (nucleic acid purification) sales grew 2%. Sales in North America and EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) declined 8% and 6% to make up 38% and 37% of sales, respectively. Rest of World sales rose 3%.
GE Healthcare reported that third-quarter Life Sciences revenue rose 3%.
