Biotage AB announced a distribution partnership with John Morris Scientific for Australia and New Zealand.

In April, Biotage announced long-term financial goals that can be achieved by 2012: organic growth of at least 10%, an increase in gross margin by 1–2 percentage points per year with a goal of achieving a gross margin exceeding 60%, and an EBIT margin of at least 10%.

Pall elected Amy E. Alving, PhD, CTO and senior vice president at SAIC, to its Board in April.

Pall named Chairman and CEO Eric Krasnoff president, following the retirement of Donald B. Stevens, president, COO and president of Pall Industrial, in July. Roberto Perez was named COO. He was most recently president of Pall Life Sciences, a position that Yves Baratelli will take over.

The California Healthcare Institute elected Ken Berger, president of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Specialty Diagnostics business, to its Board in April.

Illumina appointed Elizabeth Brady as vice president, Global Supply Chain, and Emily Winn-Deen as vice president, Diagnostics Development. Ms. Brady was formerly vice president, Global Supply Chain, Cardiac Rhythm Management Division of Boston Scientific. Ms. Winn-Deen served as president of Rx Dx Advisors.

AMETEK named Ron Oscher vice president and general manager of its Materials Analysis Division in May. Most recently, he was president of the Analyzers & Solutions Group at Emerson Electric.

Eppendorf AG’s 2009 revenues increased 5.6% to €433.2 million ($601.7 million). Operating profit rose 0.4% (3.3% excluding currency effects) to €72.2 million ($100.2 million) (see page 12). North American, Asia/Pacific and Other region sales grew 5.6% (1.2% excluding currency), 18.3% and 22.3% to 40%, 20% and 3% of sales, respectively. European sales declined 0.9% (down 0.3% excluding currency).

In May, Eppendorf became an associate partner of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory Advanced Training Center.

Bibby Scientific appointed James Heffernan, PhD, as CEO in May. Most recently, he served as group managing director at Biochrom.

Bioanalytical Systems named interim president Anthony S. Chilton, PhD, president and CEO in May.

SDIX appointed Wayne P. Yetter to its Board in May. He is CEO of ProActive for Patients Media.

In May, Hach opened its Canadian headquarters, which offers direct orders, in Mississauga, Ontario.

Sales/Orders of Note

BGI (formerly Beijing Genomics Institute) selected Agilent to streamline and enhance its next-generation sequencing workflow. It will use Agilent’s SureSelect Target Enrichment System, Bravo Automated Liquid Handling Platform and 2100 Bioanalyzer.
