Testing services firm ILS purchased in June key assets of Beckman Coulter Genomics’ Morrisville, North Carolina, site and formed ILS Genomics. Beckman Coulter acquired the site in its 2009 purchase of Cogenics (see IBO 06/15/09).
Anton Paar and its Brazilian distributor Polimate formed Anton Paar Brazil, which will take over the sales and service of products in the country beginning in 2013.
Shimadzu Asia Pacific appointed Kiminobu Imura as managing director in July. Most recently, he was a corporation officer and general manager of the Executive Secretariate Department.
In July, Dr. Dirk D. Laukien resigned from Bruker’s Board for personal reasons.
Corning Life Sciences opened in July a life sciences lab at the Corning West Technology Center in Palo Alto, California.
The FDA, the University of California (UC) at Davis, Agilent Technologies and the Centers for Disease Control announced in July a collaboration to create a public database of 100,000 foodborne pathogen genomes to help speed identification of bacteria responsible for foodborne outbreaks. The database will serve as a road map for test development and provide information about the origin of the pathogen. The five-year 100K Genome Project will sequence the genetic code of the pathogens. Agilent is providing expertise, instrumentation and funding to support the UC Davis activities.
Agilent and Gachon University of Medicine and Science are collaborating for biomarker discovery using proteomics and glycoproteomics. The College of Pharmacy will service as Agilent’s beta test site for complete glycoproteomics and biodiscovery workflow solutions.
Agilent created a center for neurometabolomics research and training in Daegu, South Korea, which will serve as a base for its collaboration with the city and the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology’s department of brain science. Agilent will provide the Institute with early access to technology, and the center will also serve as a reference site for Agilent customers.
In July, Transcat acquired Anacor Compliance Services, a provider of specialized analytical, calibration, compliance and validation services to the life sciences sector.
BioSurplus closed in July an oversubscribed Series A Financing round that raised $2.4 million.
Becton, Dickinson and Company elected Rebecca W. Rimel to its Board in July. She is president and CEO of the Pew Charitable Trusts.
Product Introductions
EMD Millipore announced in July that it will expand its chemical and reagent product lines in North America with the introduction of 14,706 new products over the next two years from the M brand portfolio. The products will be available under the same codes as in other countries.
