Brooks Automation Enters Lab Market
Brooks acquired all RTS Life Science technology except the tablet dissolution products that are part of Hatch Scientific (see IBO 4/15/10). A Brooks Automation spokesperson told IBO: “Brooks intends to leverage the experience of the RTS team to help us develop new products in the Life Sciences market that utilize Brooks’ core technologies in robotics and environmental control.” Brooks expects RTS Life Science annual revenue to be $10–$12 million.
Chelmsford, MA 4/21/11; Manchester, UK 4/1/11—Brooks Automation has acquired RTS Life Science, a provider of lab automation systems for life science, from Entologi for $3.3 million, net of cash on hand. Entologi, which acquired RTS Life Science just last year (see IBO 10/31/10), stated that RTS Life Science now generates monthly sales of £1 million ($1.6 million = £0.62 =$1) and a monthly operating profit of £100,000 ($161,000). “The RTS acquisition represents the first small step in a broader strategy to leverage the capabilities of Brooks into Life Science Systems markets,” said Brooks Automation President and CEO Steve Schwartz. Brooks Automation is a publicly held supplier of automation, vacuum and instrumentation solutions to semiconductor and related industries. The company recorded fiscal 2010 revenues of $593.0 million.
