Brooks Buys Lab Auto Consumables Provider
FluidX provides sample-storage consumables such as 2-D–barcoded well-format tubes, and barcode readers and scanners. Earlier this year, Brooks invested in biomaterials sample-handling firm BioCision (see IBO 4/30/14).
Chelmsford, MA 10/1/14—Brooks Automation, a provider of automation and cryogenic solutions, has acquired UK-based FluidX for $16 million. FluidX is a supplier of biological-sample storage tubes and complementary benchtop instruments. In 2013, FluidX generated $10 million in sales. “FluidX is an important building block for Brooks Life Science Systems, bringing state-of-the-art biological-sample storage consumables into our portfolio,” commented Brooks CEO Steve Schwartz. “Our existing consumables primarily address compound samples, and this acquisition brings us the latest designs in biological-sample consumables. Today, we have extended our research and leadership in the value chain advancing the integrity of our customers’ samples” The acquisition is expected to be accretive in fiscal 2015 on a non-GAAP basis.
