Bruker Acquires SAXS Firm

Karlsruhe, Germany 1/26/12—Bruker AXS GmbH has acquired the assets of Hecus X-ray Systems, a maker of small-angle X-ray scattering systems (SAXS) based on advanced Kratky technology, for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition adds the MICROcaliX product line to Bruker AXS’s product line. “I am convinced that our expanded SAXS product portfolio that now includes our established high-end NANOSTAR systems and the acquired dedicated high-flux systems based on advanced Kratky technology will further strengthen Bruker’s position in the SAXS market for materials and life science research, as well as for food and drug analytics,” commented Dr. Frank Burgaezy, president of Bruker AXS.

The acquisition provides Bruker with a brighter source for SAXS as well as the S3-MICROcaliX, a system that combines SAXS with calorimetry. The S3-MICROcaliX enables the simultaneous study of thermal and structural properties. Applications include the study of polymer behavior or the phase stability of pharmaceuticals.
