Bruker Adds to Security Business
Bruker stated that it will be able to expand the reach for the products using its position in US, NATO and global chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive detection. PROTECT-US’s technology can be customized into various instrument platforms, such as backpacks or vehicle-mounted systems.
Billerica, MA 1/6/11—Bruker has acquired the radiation detection instruments business of PROTECT-US for an undisclosed sum. The technology can differentiate naturally occurring radioactive materials and radioactive medical treatments from possible threats, as well as likely threats from non-threats within persons, containers and moving vehicles. Bruker’s current radiation detection product line consists of dose rate and total dose measurement instruments and special probes for defense reconnaissance. Professor William Dunn, founder and CTO of PROTECT-US, will join Bruker Detection as vice president of Radiation Detection. The acquisition is not expected to have any immediate material effect on Bruker’s 2011 financials.
