Bruker Enters Fluorescence Microscopy Market
Prairie’s focus is systems for neurobiology and cell biology research, two of the fastest growing segments of the life science research market. The company also sells laser illumination sources; photoactivation, photostimulation, and photoablation accessories; and synchronization and analysis software.
Billerica, MA 9/12/13—Bruker has acquired Prairie Technologies, a supplier of life science fluorescence microscopy products, for an undisclosed amount. Prairie had 2012 revenues of $11 million and has 30 employees. “Their Ultima two-photon microscopy product line and the new Opterra swept field multipoint scanning confocal fluorescence product line present new exciting areas of growth for Bruker, while providing significant synergies with our Bio-AFM [atomic force microscopy] offerings,” stated Bruker MAT Group President Mark R. Munch, PhD. Prairie will operate as a business unit within Bruker MAT.
Bio-Rad Laboratories (see IBO 5/15/10, 4/30/13)) and Bruker (see IBO 8/15/11, 3/15/12) also conducted internal investigations related to violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act in China, which in led to new internal controls at both firms. SEC and Department of Justice investigations are ongoing in both cases.
