Bruker Enters LC Market

Bruker is the latest MS company to acquire a nano LC firm, following Thermo’s purchase of Proxeon (see IBO 4/15/10) and AB SCIEX’s acquisition of Eksigent (see IBO 2/28/10). Michrom products include the Advance Splitless Nano-Capillary UHPLC, the Paradigm Nano-Capillary HPLC, Paradigm Micro-Analytical Multi-dimensional HPLC and the CaptiveSpray ionization source.

Billerica, MA 2/24/11—Bruker has entered into an agreement to acquire Michrom Bioresources, a provider of LC instrumentation, accessories and consumables. Financial details were not disclosed. Michrom recorded 2010 revenues of $3 million. “Michrom’s broad portfolio of novel technologies and high-performance products is highly complementary to our mass spectrometry products,” said Mr. Collin D’Silva, president of Bruker’s Chemical & Applied Markets division. All of Michrom’s employees will be retained, and Michrom founder and President Kerry Nugent will join Bruker as senior vice president—Liquid Chromatography. The transaction is expected to close within weeks.
