Canadian R&D spending is expected to grow 1.2% next year to CAD 29,854 million ($28,271 million). By performing sector, the federal government’s R&D spending is expected to rise 3.3% to CAD 2,692 million. Private nonprofits’ R&D spending is estimated to increase 3.2% to CAD 194 million. R&D expenditures by business enterprises, higher education, and provincial governments and provincial research organizations are each forecasted to increase 1.0% to represent 54%, 35% and 1% of R&D spending, respectively. By funding sector, R&D funding from the federal government is estimated to rise 2.2% to CAD 5,718 million. R&D funding by private nonprofits, provincial governments and provincial research organizations, foreign entities, business enterprises and higher education are expected to increase 1.2%, 1.2%, 1.1%, 1.0% and 1.0% to 3%, 5%, 9%, 47% and 16% of 2010 R&D funding, respectively.
