Canada’s 2014 R&D spending is expected to drop 0.6% to CAD 30.6 billion ($27.1 billion). Business enterprises are predicted to spend CAD 15.4 billion and finance CAD 14.1 billion, down 0.9% and 1.1%, respectively. Higher education is anticipated to spend CAD 12.4 billion, up 1.0%, and finance CAD 5.8 billion, down 1.9%. The federal government is expected to cut spending 6.9% to CAD 2.3 billion, and lower funding 1.9% to CAD 5.8 billion. Provincial government and research organizations are expected to drop R&D spending 0.3% to CAD 338 million and raise their R&D financing 1.1% to CAD 2.1 billion. Private nonprofit organizations are predicted to raise spending 5.0% to CAD 1.7 billion and increase funding 1.2% to CAD 1.2 billion. The foreign sector is expected to finance CAD 1.8 billion in R&D, up 0.6%.
