China’s State Council has announced new automobile fuel standards reducing sulfur content. The Fifth-phase standards limiting sulfur content to 10 ppm in gas and diesel will be introduced in June and take effect in 2017. Beijing has already implemented the standard. The Fourth-phase standard for gas of 50 ppm was previously announced, with one for diesel to be announced this year and come into effect in 2014. More developed cities, such as Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, have implemented the Fourth-phase standards. Other cities currently utilized a 150 ppm limit on sulfur in automation fuel.
