Danaher Acquires Water Testing Company

Hach acquired Sea-Bird Electronics in late 2008, as it sought to expand its water quality testing business into systems for testing ocean water. Last year, Sea-Bird acquired WET Labs (see IBO 4/30/10). Reuters reported that Hach acquired 3.6 million of newly issued DKK-TOA shares for ¥300 ($3.42 = ¥87.80 = $1) per share in December 2010. In July 2010, Hach increased its holdings in DKK-TOA from 11% to 18%.

Bellevue, WA 1/5/11; Nova Scotia, Canada 1/7/11; Washington, DC 1/27/11—Danaher’s Sea-Bird Ocean Measurement Group has acquired Satlantic, a provider of optical sensors and systems for aquatic research and water quality monitoring. The Sea-Bird Ocean Management Group consists of Sea-Bird Electronics and WET Labs. “Satlantic joining Sea-Bird and WET Labs is combining the best in biogeochemical and physical oceanographic sensors,” commented Sea-Bird President Norge Larson. “Our common customer base uses optics to measure and understand the ocean. That commonality has grown over the years as we have worked together in developing instruments and long-term monitoring systems,” stated WET Labs President Casey Moore. Also, Danaher announced during its quarterly conference call that its Hach business has increased its stake in DKK-TOA, a Japanese maker of water quality measurement instruments, to 33.4%.
