Worldwide, finance and investment in the clean energy sector increased 30% in 2010 to reach $243 billion. More than 90% of all clean energy investments were in companies and projects in the Group of Twenty (G-20) leading economies. Europe was the top recipient of clean energy finance at $94.4 billion. Clean energy investments totaled $65.8 billion in America and $54.4 billion in China. Solar energy was the fastest-growing sector in G-20 countries, receiving $79 billion in investments, a 53% increase. Wind energy remained the top technology for investments in G-20 countries, accounting for $95 billion, an increase of 34%. The investment in biofuels in G-20 countries was $4.7 billion, the lowest amount since 2005. Global stimulus spending for clean energy was $74.5 billion in 2010, and governments are expected to invest an additional $69 billion in stimulus spending this year.
