According to Hydrocarbon Processing’s HPI Construction Boxscore Survey, the total number of hydrocarbon projects worldwide grew 12% between June 2007 and June 2008 to 5,029. Rising the fastest were the number of synfuel projects, which grew 15%, while gas processing projects increased 15% and refining projects rose 11%. All other projects grew 26%. However, the number of new projects added to the Boxscore declined 9% on an annualized basis to 1,495. The new project additions declined in all categories, except synfuels, and totaled 408 for petrochemical/chemicals, 483 for refining and 31 for synfuels. Of the new projects added, Asia-Pacific accounted for 28%, or 423 new projects. Europe and the US represented 25% and 17%, respectively.
