Executive Shuffle at Agilent and Becton, Dickinson

Santa Clara, 4/16/18; Santa Clara, CA 4/24/18; Franklin Lakes, NJ 4/27/18—Agilent Technologies has named two executives to new positions, following the departure of a Group leader. Agilent appointed Jacob Thaysen, PhD, senior vice president, and previously president, Diagnostics and Genomics Group (DGG), as president of the Life Sciences and Applied Markets Group (LSAG). This follows the April 20th resignation of Patrick Kaltenbach as senior vice president and president of LSAG. “I appreciate Patrick’s friendship and past leadership. All of us wish him the best in his future ventures,” commented Agilent President and CEO Mike McMullen. Mr. Kaltenbach will join Becton, Dickinson (BD) as president of BD’s Life Sciences Segment, effective May 29. He replaces Alberto Mas, who has been named president of BD’s Medical Segment.

Replacing Dr. Thaysen as president of DGG is Sam Raha, who previously served as senior vice president, Agilent Strategy and Corporate Development. “Both Sam and Jacob are known for their strong leadership, and I am particularly excited about the fresh perspectives they bring to build on Agilent’s strengths across our markets,” said Mr. McMullen.

Mr. Kaltenbach takes over the almost $4 billion BD Life Science segment, which serves both the diagnostic and life science research markets. He has been with Agilent (previously Hewlett-Packard) since 1991 and was named president of the newly formed LSAG in November 2014 (see IBO 11/30/14). Mr. Mas has served as president of BD Life Sciences since October 2016. He succeeds Ton Polen, who was named president of BD earlier this month.

Both of the changes at Agilent involve employees with a history at the company. Dr. Thaysen joined Agilent as part of the company’s acquisition of Dako (see IBO 5/31/12). Mr. Raha rejoined Agilent last year after serving as vice president of Global Marketing at Illumina (see IBO 3/31/17),
