Forensics

The American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) now offers accreditation for forensic examination laboratories, following the publication of the National Research Council’s report, “Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States: A Path Forward.” The program covers forensic examination, including DNA, fingerprints and crime scene examination, as well as forensic engineering, failure analysis and accident analysis. The program is designed to accommodate all organizations involved with testing and inspection for use in criminal and civil proceedings. The program provides two accreditation options. The first is for the assessment and accreditation of forensic testing laboratories and adheres to international standard ISO/IEC 17025. The second is for the assessment and accreditation of forensic inspection bodies and adheres to international standard ISO/IEC 17020. Both options also require compliance to A2LA policies and requirements.
