FOSS and Metrohm Partner
A FOSS spokesperson told IBO that the partnership, which is already in effect, includes Metrohm’s acquisition of the assets of FOSS NIRSystems, which had served the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Asked why the change was made at this time, FOSS told IBO, “The strategic alliance allows FOSS to achieve a better scale in serving the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, both from a market and production/R&D perspective.” Metrohm distributes the NIRSystems products in 80 countries, the same number of countries in which the products were previously available, through its own subsidiaries or exclusive distributors.
Hillerød, Denmark; Herisau, Switzerland 2/8/13—FOSS has announced a strategic alliance with Metrohm for the exclusive distribution of its NIR instruments for the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and environmental markets. US-based FOSS NIRSystems will become a division of Metrohm USA and be renamed Metrohm NIRSystems. “The strategic alliance allows FOSS to focus its NIR business on the food and agricultural industries that we have served for more than 50 years, while continuing our leading position within NIR technology—and making this technology available to a broader customer base,” said FOSS CEO Torben Ladegaard. “Metrohm will extend its product offering beyond the company’s traditional focus on solutions for wet-chemistry analytical techniques thereby benefiting our customers with new possibilities both in laboratory and process analysis,” stated Dr. Christoph Fässler, CEO of Metrohm. FOSS will remain responsible for NIR R&D and manufacturing.
