Alpha MOS’s fiscal 2011 sales for the year ending September 30, 2011, increased 22.3% to €9.9 million ($13.8 million). System sales increased 37.2%. The food and beverage sector represented 65% of revenues. Sales in the Americas grew 34%, and sales in Asia, outside of Japan, rose 27%. Japan accounted for 36% of revenues.
INFICON’s 2011 Emergency Response & Security sales fell 16.4% to $18.4 million to make up 6% of sales.
INFICON Emergency Response & Security sales rose 166% in the first quarter to $8.5 million, or 11% of company sales, due to large shipments to Japan and the US.
Product Introductions
Teledyne Tekmar introduced the small and economical Versa Automated Headspace System for static headspace. It features a 20-position autosampler and sample heating to 200 °C throughout the pathway.
Markes International released the CIA Advantage thermal desorption system for the analysis of volatile organic compounds of air-sample canisters.
Smiths Detection launched in January the portable GUARDION GC/MS, which includes a toroidal ion trap MS, for chemical threat identification. The system is the result of a partnership with Torion Technologies. It can analyze up to 30 samples on a single battery charge.
Restek released the Rtx-BAC Plus 1 and Rtx-BAC Plus GC columns for blood alcohol testing, which can analyze all critical compounds in less than two minutes.
HTA introduced the HT3100A autoinjector for processing up to 15 samples; the HT3000A compact autosampler, featuring 121 positions and a touch screen display; and the HT3200A top-class autosampler, which can handle up to 209 2-mL sample vials and the Syringe ID for identifying syringes.
In March, Thermo Fisher Scientific released the Thermo Scientific TargetQuan 3 data-processing software for analyzing and reporting on persistent organic pollutants (POP). It is designed for workflow-oriented POP quantification.
Bruker launched CompassCDS 3.0 software for multi-instrument GC labs. It is available as a stand-alone or fully networked client/server application and can operate in 24/7 production environments.
In April, Bruker introduced a new generation of its SCION Series GCs. The SCION 436-GC features a touch screen interface and can support two injectors and two detectors. The SCION 456-GC can support three injectors and four detectors.

Gerstel announced in March the sale of more than one thousand of its Olfactory Detection Port systems for sensory detection of odors by the human nose simultaneously with analytical detection by any GC detector.
