GC & GC/MS
Company Announcements
Pyrolyzer maker Frontier Laboratories opened its first US office in October 2010 in Antioch, California. The company is working with Diablo Analytical to assist its existing US distributors, Quantum Analytics and Shimadzu.
Shimadzu announced in January that its GC-2010 Plus and GC-2014 systems can now be controlled in a Waters Empower Software environment.
Torion Technologies announced new distributors: Polytech Instrument and Tegent Technologies/Tegent Scientific for China, SCINCO for Korea and Chromatographic Specialties for Canada.
INFICON’s Emergency Response & Security revenue was flat in 2010 at $22.0 million to make up 8% of company sales. The acquired Agilent micro GC product line (see IBO 3/31/10) contributed $3.4 million in sales.
Thermo Fisher Scientific opened its Center of Excellence for persistent organic pollutants (POP), such as dioxin, in Bremen, Germany. The Center developed an integrated POP workflow for routine, high-throughput sample analysis, incorporating consumables, the TSQ Quantum XLS triple quadrupole GC/MS/MS for screening, the DFS High Resolution GC/HRMS for confirmation, and TargetQuan software.
Agilent introduced the CrossLab supplies portfolio, which provides supplies for multiple brands of GC systems. Products include Ultra Inert inlet liners for active compounds, autosampler syringes and vials, and capillary column ferrules.
Product Introductions
Agilent introduced the 7697A Headspace Sampler, the company’s first in house–designed headspace sampler, available with 111-vial capacity or 12-vial capacity.
Agilent launched the LTM Series II system for GC. The second-generation low thermal-mass technology increases sample throughput using faster column heating/cooling cycles. It is available for the Agilent 7890A GC.
Torion Technologies introduced the solid phase microextraction–based AIRION-3 portable dynamic air-sampling system, which can be operated for sample collection for up to 27 hours at a 1 L/min flow rate in a single charge.
In March, FLIR Systems launched the Griffin 460 mobile GC/MS system, featuring multimodal sample introduction for liquid, solid and vapor samples, while also providing continuous direct air monitoring. It is also capable of MS/MS analysis.
Frontier Laboratories released the Multi-Shot Pyrolyzer EGA/PY-3030D, its fourth-generation multifunctional GC inlet that offers a choice of six techniques as an alternative to solvent-based chemical extraction methods.
Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced the Thermo Scientific POPs Screening and POPs Confirmation kits, which are ready-to-use packages for GC/MS analysis that include all necessary consumables and methods.
