GE Healthcare to Offer Disposable Equipment

GE enters the biodisposable equipment market, following major acquisitions in the sector by its competitors in the process filtration market, Millipore (see IBO 5/31/06) and Sartorius (see IBO 2/28/07).

Chalfont St. Giles, England 4/16/07—GE Healthcare has acquired Wave Biotech, a supplier of disposable manufacturing technologies, including the Wave bioreactor, Wave Mixer and Sterile Tube Fuser. Financial details were not disclosed. Based in Somerset, New Jersey, with approximately 70 employees, Wave Biotech has annual revenues of $25 million and its equipment is used at over 300 companies. Ann O’Hara, general manager of GE Healthcare’s BioProcess business, stated, “The combination of GE Healthcare and Wave Biotech will allow us to expand into new applications and to create a broad offering of added value tools and services for biopharmaceutical manufacture.” Wave Biotech will join GE Healthcare’s BioProcess business, which also offers filtration and process chromatography products.
