R&D spending by Germany’s chemical industry was a record high of €10.5 billion ($14.1 billion) in 2013, up 8.2%. The number of personnel researching new products or processes grew by just under 5% to 44,500, while the growth of staff in the overall sector increased by 1.3%. The chemical sector had the third-largest research budget in German industry in 2013, accounting for 17.5% of R&D spending.
