Hitachi High-Technologies Broadens Instrument Offerings

Hitachi will pay ¥10 billion ($126 million) for SII NanoTechnology, according to Nikkei.com. SII Nanotechnology’s product lines include X-ray fluorescence spectrometers, scanning probe microscopes, thermal analyzers and inductively coupled plasma spectrometers, which will each be new markets for Hitachi. Both firms offer scanning electron microscopes.

Tokyo, Japan 5/24/12—Hitachi High-Technologies has announced an agreement to acquire SII NanoTechnology from Seiko Instruments for an undisclosed amount. Hitachi High-Technologies stated that the acquisition will enhance its core technologies, including X-ray, thermal analysis, ion optic and physical measurement technologies, as well as create synergies. SII NanoTechnology’s fiscal 2011 revenues increased 2.3% to ¥15,576 million ($196 million = ¥79.57 = $1). A press release from Seiko was not available in English. The acquisition is expected to be completed by October 1.
