HORIBA Acquires Fluorescence Firm

PTI provides systems and components for modular fluorescence platform designs and upgrades. The company’s products include the QuantaMaster line of spectrofluorometers, the TimeMaster fluorescence lifetime spectrofluorometers, and the Optical Building Blocks brand. The acquisition adds to HORIBA’s strong presence in the fluorescence spectroscopy market.

Kyoto, Japan 2/10/14; Boston, MA 2/12/14—HORIBA has acquired the assets of Photon Technology International (PTI), a supplier of fluorescence spectroscopy research instrumentation, including microscopy-based fluorometers. The purchase price was not disclosed. Based in New Jersey, PTI has 40 employees at sites in the US, UK, Canada and Germany. HORIBA stated that it aims to increase its fluorescence spectroscopy market share by taking advantage of PTI’s network in the biomedical field, including a leading position in systems for intracellular ion imaging. HORIBA also said it plans to expand PTI’s Canada-based production to increase its offerings for the materials analysis market. HORIBA is targeting fluorescence spectroscopy sales of ¥4.5 billion ($44.0 million = ¥102.30 = $1) by 2018.
