IDEX Buys Optical Filter Company
Semrock provides optical filters for fluorescence, microscopy, Raman and laser-based instrument systems. Its optical filters are made using hard Ion Beam Sputtered coatings for greater reliability. IDEX noted the company’s manufacturing process, which allow high-volume production for OEM customers and catalog orders.
Northbrook, IL 10/20/08—IDEX has acquired Semrock, a provider of optical filters for biotech and analytical instruments in the life sciences markets, for approximately $60 million in cash. Semrock generates annual revenues of approximately $21 million and is based in Rochester, New York. “Their expertise enables the continued expansion of our core capabilities in integrated fluidic applications,” stated IDEX Chairman and CEO Larry Kingsley. “The acquisition of Semrock extends our offerings to existing OEMs and provides us with significant access to new opportunities within the health and life sciences market.” The acquisition is expected to be accretive to IDEX’s 2009 earnings. Semrock will operate as a stand-alone business within IDEX’s Health and Science Technologies segment.
