Illumina Buys IVD Consulting Firm
In Illumina’s quarterly conference call, CEO Jay Flatley commented that the acquisition triples the size of the company’s regulatory team. He explained the acquisition was necessitated by Illumina’s preparations to take a large number of products, which it will sell as a complete solution, through regulatory clearance for both itself and with partners.
San Diego, CA 7/16/14—Illumina has purchased Myraqa, a regulatory and quality consulting firm that specializes in IVD, particularly companion diagnostics. The purchase price was undisclosed. Illumina stated that the acquisition adds to its in-house capabilities for clinical readiness and prepares it for its next growth phase in regulated markets. “With Myraqa, Illumina will continue to pave the way for the use of genomic technology, including next-generation sequencing, in regulated markets while also driving standards for use in the clinic,” said Rick Klausner, MD, chief medical officer at Illumina. Mya Thomae, founder and CEO of Myraqa, was named vice president of Regulatory Affairs, reporting to Dr. Klausner.
