Illumina Forecasts 2014 Revenues and Makes Announcements

The company announced a number of new products at the conference. The compact $250,000 NextSeq 500 is designed for a wide range of applications, including exome sequencing and non-invasive prenatal testing. The HiSeqX system, which the company said delivers “the world’s first real $1,000 genome,” is designed for factory-scale genomics and is only available for purchase in a 10-unit configuration at price of $10 million.

Washington, DC 1/14/14; San Francisco, CA 1/14/14—During its presentation at the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference, Illumina announced its financial guidance for 2014 and made announcements regarding its sequencing and diagnostics businesses. For 2014, the company forecast revenues to grow 15%–17% and non-GAAP diluted EPS to be $2.00–$2.06. Gross margins are expected to be 70%. The company stated that preliminary 2013 revenues increased 24% to $1.42 billion, as fourth quarter revenues grew 25% to $387 million. The firm introduced the NextSeq 500 Sequencing system and the HiSeqX system. Illumina plans to submit its HiSeq 2500 sequencer for FDA clearance this year and its Verinata business’s non-invasive prenatal test for clearance on the system.
