In Vivo Animal Imaging Firm VisualSonics to Be Acquired
VisualSonics’ technology enables the imaging of superficial anatomy on small living animals for preclinical research, and can image superficial structures at 30 µm, according to Sonosite. Sonosite plans to grow the company’s presence in the research market and retain the company’s current management.
Bothell, WA 5/27/10—Sonosite, a provider of impedance cardiography equipment, has signed an agreement to acquire VisualSonics for $71 million net of cash and debt. VisualSonics provides real-time ultra high-frequency micro-ultrasound technology for the preclinical research market. “Our intention is to integrate VisualSonics’ micro-ultrasound technology with SonoSite’s miniaturization competency and user design to deliver ultra high-frequency micro-ultrasound into clinical medicine,” stated SonoSite President and CEO Kevin M. Goodwin. VisualSonics had trailing 12-month revenues of $30 million and EBITDAS of $5 million.
