India announced its 2015 interim budget, effective until the full budget is presented after May elections. Budgets of all three Ministry of Science and Technology departments will grow. The Department of Science and Technology will receive INR 3,419.00 crore ($553.4 million), rising 31.2%. Of that, INR 794.00 crore will be for Autonomous Institutions & Professional Bodies, up 14.4%. INR 301.00 crore, a gain of 66.6%, will support Multidisciplinary Research in Science and Technology. The Science and Engineering Research Board will gain 13.2% to 600.00 crore. Funds for the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research will rise 16.7% to INR 3,707.15 crore, of which INR 3,576.83 crore, up 15.4%, will be for the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Of that, CSIR’s National Laboratories will receive 2,485 crore for R&D programs, a 16.7% increase. The Department of Biotechnology’s budget will grow 15.3% to INR 1,517.21 crore. Assistance to Autonomous R&D Institutions will rise 18.8% to 509.85 crore.
