To promote research in fields in which India relies largely on technology from abroad, the country’s government will launch a funding opportunity on November 5 of INR 1,000 crore ($154 million). An interministerial group will review projects and proposals submitted by India’s research and technology institutes for the awards. The IMPRINT funding mechanism will support projects without the bureaucracy that often discourages and delays projects. IMPRINT’s areas of focus include advanced materials manufacturing, diagnostic imaging, nanotechnology hardware, and solar and renewable energy. It is expected that the funding will be provided annually, with awards given in February and the possibility of research beginning on April 1, the start of the next fiscal year.
