The food-processing sector constitutes up to 10% of the GDP within India’s Agriculture and Manufacturing sector. Agriculture employs about 60% of the population and contributes 14% to the GDP. In fiscal 2012, India produced 127.3 million t of milk, representing 17% of the global market. The country produced 7.0 million t of pulses, 155.7 million t of rice, 93.9 million t of wheat and 277.7 million t of sugarcane, making up 20%, 24%, 10% and 24% of global supplies, respectively. India produces the most dairy in the world, with a fiscal 2013 expected value of INR 3.8 trillion ($62.6 billion). Exports of food and food-related products were estimated at $37.8 million for fiscal 2014, up 4%. In fiscal 2013, the value of these exports to the US was $3.0 million, followed by $1.5 million to Vietnam and $1.4 million to Iran.
