The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is finalizing proposals for several standards. A standard for sampling analysis is a major component of the draft, with a panel report expected this month. The draft will then be reviewed by a scientific committee. Other drafts in the works regard import regulation, risk-based analysis, flavors and a food recall system. The FSSAI is also working on a surveillance system. The FSSAI has named 72 government labs to conduct food testing and hopes to equip 62 of them to test multiple parameters. The FSSAI also plans to establish an additional 25 labs. Also needed is training for lab workers. The National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management will coordinate training programs.
