Accelrys disclosed in an SEC filing that it has entered into a settlement agreement with Borealis related to arbitration involving Symyx Technologies, which it later acquired (see IBO 4/15/10). It agreed to make a one-time payment of $16.0 million, which will total a net out-of-pocket payout of $5.9 million due to insurance proceeds.

In December 2013, Accelrys introduced the Materials Studio 7.0 modeling and simulation environment for material scientists. It features improved solubility property prediction and new forcefield types.
In February, Accelrys launched ScienceCloud, an SaaS-based information management and collaboration workspace for externalized drug discovery. It provides project-centered IP storage and mobile-device enablement.
PerkinElmer released in December 2013 the BioAnalytical module for its E-Notebook 2014. The module includes support for multiple-analyte solution workflows.
In January, Oracle Health Sciences introduced Translational Research Center 3.0 for secondary use of electronic health records and omics data to accelerate biomarker identification. It features expanded omics and clinical data models.
Qlucore introduced Omics Explorer 3.0 data analysis software, featuring a new inbuilt Gene Ontology Browser and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis workbench.
Dotmatics released the Cascade web-based test request and tracking application, which works alongside the company’s existing web-based solutions.
In February, Certara launched the Phoenix QT+ cardiac safety assessment tool, which provides data processing, statistical and modeling capabilities to determine whether a drug candidate prolongs cardiac repolarization.
LIMSABC introduced a new cloud-based LIMS software specifically designed for toxicology labs.
