In the fourth quarter of 2013, PerkinElmer acquired Google Ventures–backed Wingu, a developer of a cloud-based platform for research collaboration.
Cambridge Semantics integrated ChemAxon’s search and visualization capabilities into its Anzo software.
IDBS and Osthus, a global systems integrator, announced a strategic partnership, which includes development of new integration modules for additional services, such as offline mobile data capture and lab request handling. The partnership also offers enhanced services to IDBS customers in Europe, particularly Germany.
In February, Eagle Genomics announced that CEO Dr. David Flanders will leave the company, and founder and COO Abel Ureta Vidal will serve as acting CEO.
In March, Simulations Plus named the Research Institute for Liver Diseases as a distributor for China.
Thermo Fisher Scientific entered into a strategic business partnership in March with Naizak Global Engineering Systems. Naizak will sell and support Thermo Scientific–branded informatics solutions. Naizak has been a longtime seller of Thermo Scientific instruments.
In April, Schrödinger became the exclusive reseller of Altoris’s SARvision products, except in Japan.
Product Introductions
Justice Trax introduced LIMS-plus DNA, a stand-alone DNA software application designed to reduce DNA backlogs by automating forensic sample processing.
Accelrys introduced in February the Accelrys Notebook 5.0, a multidiscipline ELN with new capabilities for customizing work environments and connecting to existing lab software.
In March, Ocimum Biosolutions released Sciantis, an end-to-end intuitive tool for biologics process tracking, standard data management and comprehensive analytics in discovery operations.
PerkinElmer launched the Elements platform, based on a cloud-based scientific-collaboration platform obtained through its acquisition of Wingu. The platform includes modular applications and electronic data capture, and integrates ChemDraw.
Genedata introduced Genedata Biologics 4.0, which provides new tools for systematically designing, cloning, expressing, purifying and testing bi- and multi-specific antibodies.
Genedata announced in April the integration of Genedata Analysis with tranSMART, an open-source knowledge-management platform for translational-science data sets.
Label Independent released Visual Assay, a tablet-based collaboration platform available in three editions: Visual Assay RT for instantly sharing results, Visual Assay Plus for project management and Visual Assay Maestro for platform administration.
