On January 15, the Korean Science and Technology Ministry released a plan to place Korea among the top three countries for nanotechnology by 2020. According to the plan, by 2020, Korean companies would control 20% of the global nanotechnology market, generating sales of $260 billion per year by 2015 and $500 billion in 2020. Nano-element technology is set to account for more than 20% of the global microelectronic market by 2015. The Ministry has categorized nanotechnology into four sectors (nano-element, nano-manufacturing, nano-bio and nano-energy and environmental technology), even creating unique fields by combining sectors.
