Sanyo North America’s Biomedical Solutions Division opened a new production assembly line in Sanyo E&E’s Tijuana factory in September for assembly of the Japanese-made parts into insulated ultra-low temperature freezes for North American orders.

VWR Scientific officially opened its new corporate headquarters at the Radnor Corporate Center in Radnor, Pennsylvania, in October. The facility integrates the company’s corporate workforce of 446 associates and contractors, which were previously housed in two locations in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

In October, Vickers Laboratories, a specialty chemicals manufacturer, was acquired in a management buy-out.

In November, Avantor Performance Materials (formerly Mallinckrodt Baker) changed the Mallinckrodt Chemicals brand name to Macron Chemicals. The change will be implemented on March 7, 2011.

BioCision announced in November a distribution agreement with Sanyo E&E Europe EV, Sanyo’s Biomedical division in Europe.

Sigma-Aldrich’s Aldrich Materials Science business entered into a distribution agreement in November for Nanosys’s silicon nanowires, which include undoped silicon nanowires and boron-doped nanowires.

Product Introductions

Sanyo North America’s Biomedical Solutions Division launched the CytoGROW GLP Series of cell culture CO2 incubators, which consists of two 6.0 cu ft model and two 12.0 cu ft models.

Sanyo North America’s Biomedical Solutions Division released the PRO Series -86°C Ultralow Temperature Freezers, consisting of a 17.1 cu ft model and a 23.5 cu ft model, featuring energy savings.

New Brunswick Scientific introduced the Premium U700 Freezer, an ultra-low temperature large-capacity freezer offering 25 cu ft of storage capacity and five compartments.

Eppendorf AG introduced the 5418 R and 5424 R refrigerated microcentrifuges, featuring respective temperature ranges of 0–40°C and -10–40°C.

In October, LGC Standards released a range of reference nanomaterials for nanotechnology research. The reference nanomaterials were used within the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials.

Thermo Fisher Scientific released the Thermo Scientific Sorvall RC 12BP Plus Centrifuge, a large-capacity, high-throughput floor-standing centrifuge for blood-banking and blood-processing applications.

Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced the Thermo Scientific ThermoChill I and ThermoChill II recirculating chillers with a temperature range of 5–30°C and a cooling capacity of 700–2000 W.
