Grant Instruments opened a regional office in Shanghai, China, in March.

In April, Henry Schein, a provider of health care products to office-based practitioners, acquired Alpha Scientific. Alpha Scientific, a distributor of medical/surgical, pharmaceutical and lab products to physician offices and medical labs, had 2010 sales of $10 million.

Bibby Scientific opened a sales office in Singapore in April.

In May, Bibby Scientific acquired Electrothermal Engineering from Thermo Fisher Scientific. Electrothermal Engineering provides heaters and controllers for research and teaching labs, reaction stations, and vehicle-mounted vessels for military vehicles.

Kewaunee Scientific in May named ISEC its representative for the Rocky Mountain States region of the US.

In June, John Russell joined Kewaunee Scientific’s Board. He is the former CEO of Maysteel.

PharmTech.com reported that in February Spectrum Chemical opened a 30,000-square-foot facility in Shanghai, China, for expanded analytical testing, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution capabilities.

In June, FuelOnly, a fluid analysis and research lab, acquired Black Hills Scientific, a lab product distributor.

China-based Sinopharm Chemical Reagents named Lab Technics its North American distributor.

Porvair announced that sales for Seal Analytical in the six months ending May 31 declined 9%. In constant currency, sales declined 7%.

In July, SANYO North America Biomedical Solutions Division and BD Biosciences announced a strategic agreement to jointly promote research tools for cell culture and cell therapy.

In July, the Baker Company acquired Ruskinn Technology, a manufacturer of anaerobic and modified-atmosphere workstations.

Product Introductions

In March, Seal Analytical introduced the compact, dual-channel AutoAnalyzer 1 segmented flow analyzer.

INTEGRA introduced the VIAFLOW 96, a 96-channel electronic pipette for the simultaneous transfer of 96 samples. It is designed to operate like a standard pipettor.

Wheaton launched the Socorex Acura manual 826 XS micropipette line, featuring a shorter shaft design for improved pipetting precision.

Biohit released the eLINE 0.1–5 µL electronic pipette for dispensing small volumes of liquids.

JEOL introduced the custom-designed Hydro Radiant Panel System, a radiant cooling system designed to insulate an instrument lab from temperature fluctuations.

Corning released the LSE compact centrifuge, which accommodates 15 mL and 50 mL tubes.
