Company Announcements

During the third quarter 2013, VWR instituted a restructuring program, which will consolidate several small distribution and other facilities. Expected to be completed in 2014, the program will cost approximately $40 million.

In January, LGC acquired German firm Dr. Ehrenstorfer, a producer of pesticide and other organic reference materials.

INFORS HT opened US offices in January and took over its US business, which was previously represented by Appropriate Technical Resources.

NuAire announced in January that will sell and service Hitachi Koki centrifuges in North America.

Sigma-Aldrich agreed to market and distribute Goodfellow Cambridge’s portfolio of materials, which includes metals, alloys and ceramics, as part of its Aldrich Materials Science initiative. All products will be available globally in April 2015.

Porvair announced that for the fiscal half year ending November 30, 2013, Seal Analytical revenue grew 13%, including robust demand in China.

SiliCycle, a provider of silica gel products, announced in February the acquisition of Mettler-Toledo’s MiniBlock product line for solution phase synthesis, solid phase and peptide synthesis, and parallel purification.

In February, ACP Chemicals acquired LabChem. LabChem will retain its name.

Product Introductions

In December 2013, Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced an enhanced general purpose centrifuge product line, featuring the new Thermo Scientific TX-1000 rotor, with a 4 L capacity in a traditional 3 L footprint. The new MicroClick 30 x 2 rotor offers a 30-place capacity for microtube and nucleic acid spin columns.

Baker Ruskinn released the Hypoxy COOL media conditions system for reducing the oxygen concentration in tissue/cell culture media to user-defined values by precisely controlling oxygen levels in liquid media.

Integra introduced in January the VIAFLO Assist, an adaptor for the VIAFLO II multichannel pipettes, for automated pipetting.

In February, ELGA LabWater launched the PURELAB Chorus range of lab water systems, which allows the assembly of modular systems. It consists of the Chorus 1 for ultrapure Type I/I water, Chorus 2 for pure Type II water, and Chorus 3 for general pure-grade Type III water.

Greiner Bio-One introduced its first biobanking tubes, the Cryo.s, for high-throughput sample storage. They feature a 30% reduction in height compared to standard cryo tubes, allowing for optimized utilization of available space.

Mettler-Toledo released the low volume Rainin Liquidator 96, with a volume range of 0.5–20 µL, for manual simultaneous 96-well pipetting.
