IKA opened subsidiaries in Brazil and South Korea this year and plans to manufacture products in Brazil.
In June, VWR named Peter Schüle senior vice president and president, European Lab Business. He previously served as vice president, Supply Chain Europe, Middle East and Africa, at Sigma-Aldrich.
In July, Avantor Performance Materials expanded its arrangement with VWR for distribution of its pharmaceutical production chemicals portfolio in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Used lab equipment provider American Laboratory Trading opened an office in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in July.
In July, Sigma-Aldrich partnered with six research labs at Scripps Research Institute to fund research and provide immediate access to the Institute’s discoveries for the synthesis and analysis of potential drugs. Sigma and the labs will fund development of novel reagents, which Sigma will exclusively commercialize via a master licensing agreement.
Under a strategic partnership, Sigma-Aldrich will help develop Paragon Scientific’s product range and expand the availability of Paragon’s calibration standards and certified reference materials. The agreement strengthens a long-standing relationship. Sigma’s Applied Business Unit will be the primary distribution channel for Paragon.
Product Introductions
In June, Eppendorf introduced the Eppendorf Tube 5.0 mL system.
Eppendorf launched in August the Reference 2 pipette, featuring a new design, reduced weight and operating forces, and multichannel versions.
Beckman Coulter Life Sciences released in July the microfuge 20 and 20R microcentrifuges. Samples can be processed at speeds up to 15,000 rpm (20,627 x g).
In September, Beckman Coulter Life Sciences launched the Allegra X-5 air-cooled benchtop centrifuge, designed for clinical sample preparation. It has a maximum speed of 4700 rpm and centrifugal force of up to 4470 x g.
Sartorius introduced in July the Quintix lab balance, available in 12 models with weighing capacities of 220–5,100 g and readabilities from 0.1 mg to 1 g.
Sartorius released in August the Practum series of lab balances, designed for educational facilities. Nine models are available, with weighing capacities of 120–5,100 g and readabilities from 0.1 mg to 1 g.
In July, Thermo Fisher Scientific launched the Thermo Scientific Barnstead GenPure xCAD Plus water purification system, featuring simultaneous dispensing from three remote dispensers.
In August, Porvair Sciences introduced a 96-well round bottom well plate with a 2.00 mL liquid capacity/well in an automation compatible footprint.
