Proxeon integrated its EASY-nLC system software with Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Xcalibur software and became a Thermo Fisher Scientific Virtual Instrument Partner.

Varian and Flora Research Laboratories formed an alliance in October 2008 to advance the implementation of LC/MS for complex dietary supplement analysis.

JASCO released drivers for Applied Biosystems/MDS Analytical Technologies’ Analyst software to control its X-LC and supercritical fluid chromatography systems.

Advion BioSystems and Agilent agreed in November 2008 to comarket the Advion TriVersa NanoMate automated fraction collection and nanoelectrospray system with Agilent MS systems. A bracket provides an interface.

Agilent announced the opening of a Biological Mass Spectrometry Facility, which is equipped with Agilent MS platforms, at the National University of Ireland (NUI).

Geneva Bioinformatics SA and Utrecht University’s Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics Group announced a collaborative partnership for MS-based proteomics and ETD/CID data, beginning with a project for the Lys-N protein digestion proteomics workflow.

IonSense signed an expanded license agreement with JEOL USA to produce and sell the DART-ET Ambient Pressure Desorption Ionization Sources for TOF-MS.

Product Introductions

Shimadzu Scientific Instruments introduced the GPC-AccuSpot-AXIMA, a gel permeation chromatography-MALDI-TOF MS system for the quick analysis of ultra-trace substances in polymer and plastic applications.

Prosolia introduced the 2-D Omni Spray Ion Source based on desorption electrospray ionization technology (DESI), featuring an open-access sample stage that fits up to three standard Omni Slides or one Omni Slide-96.

Prosolia and Indigo BioSystems released FireFly data conversion software, which allows Thermo Scientific LTQ MS and Omni Spray Ion Source users to convert their data sets into formats compatible with BioMAP freeware.

Agilent introduced in December 2008 the Agilent 6230 Accurate-Mass TOF LC/MS system, which delivers sub-1 ppm mass accuracy. The company also released a pesticide accurate-mass database and plans to offer compound databases for toxicology and drugs of abuse.

In January, Waters introduced the Xevo Q-TOF MS, its second Xevo product. It emphasizes simplicity of operation and increased sensitivity and costs $300,000–$400,000.

Sales/Orders of Note

Bruker Daltonics announced a contract valued at more than $12 million with the Japanese National Police Agency (NPA) for 51 micrOTOF-II focus ESI-TOF systems, as well as HPLC and CE systems, which will be installed in each of the NPA’s Prefecture forensic labs. Delivery is scheduled for March.
