Leica Acquires Histology and Research Lab Supplier
Surgipath was founded in 1976 and has approximately 200 employees, including a direct sales organization. Last year, Leica Microsystems acquired two histopathology companies: Cell Analysis (see IBO 5/15/08) and Coretech (see IBO 5/31/08).
Wetzlar, Germany 1/6/09—Microscopy company Leica Microsystems, a Danaher business, has acquired Surgipath Medical Industries for an undisclosed amount. Based in Richmond, Illinois, Surgipath is a provider of consumables and medical device accessories for clinical histology and research laboratories, including processing reagents, storage and specimen transport devices, and cytology accessories and safety products. “The amalgamation of the product lines of both companies gives the industry a comprehensive partner for all histology requirements,” stated Surgipath CEO John Monek.
