Company Announcements

Sigma Life Science agreed in April to distribute the European Collection of Cell Cultures, a collection of human and animal cell cultures. Sigma has exclusive distribution rights, excluding the UK, Australia and Japan.

The Business Standard reported in April that Sigma-Aldrich will distribute GE Healthcare’s Whatman products in India.

In April, BellBrook Labs named Cambio its exclusive distributor for the UK.

Gen9 announced in April the closing of a $21 million strategic investment from Agilent, which has also taken an equity stake in the company. Gen9 will incorporate Agilent’s Oligonucleotide Library Synthesis technology into its manufacturing process to allow for the large-scale creation of pathway constructs and DNA libraries.

In April, STEMCELL Technologies licensed iPS Academia’s induced pluripotent stem cell technologies.

ALPCO announced in April that it is distributing Cytognos’s specialized panels of flow cytometry reagents and Infinicyt software in North America.

In May, Life Technologies launched a sublicensing program for its TALENS technology for gene editing. Among the first sublicensees are ToolGene and Cellular Dynamics International.

Product Introductions

Cellectis bioresearch released CanCELL cell lines, featuring gene knockouts for the major cancer-relevant oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes.

Greiner Bio-One introduced the 96-well SensoPlate Plus, a microscopy plate designed for use with high resolution microscopy and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy.

Molecular Devices released the FLIPR Calcium 6 Assay Kits for GPCR and ion channel targets.

EMD/Merck Millipore introduced the SIRTainty Class III HDAC assay for the detection of sirtuin activity on any desired substrate. It employs untagged acetylated peptide substrates.

In May, EMD/Merck Millipore launched the MILLIPLEX map Human Stem Cell Pluripotency Magnetic Bead Kits, based on the Luminex xMAP platform, for the analysis of many different pluripotency biomarkers in a single measurement.

EMD/Merck Millipore and Plasticell released in May OsteoMAX-XF, calling it the first fully defined, xeno-free human mesenchymal stem cell differentiation medium for the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells into osteocytes. Mineralization can be detected in less than one week. Plasticell retains all rights for therapeutic applications.

GeneTex released a new mouse monoclonal antibody to the human TET1 protein for DNA methylation/epigenetics research.
