The National Institute of Bioprocessing Research and Training, Ireland, and GE Healthcare Life Sciences announced a joint research collaboration in September 2011 to develop new, robust and reproducible biochemical assays for the analysis of the biological activity of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies. An investment of $0.5 million will be made in the first year of the two-year project.

GE Healthcare released the His Capture Kit and NTA Reagent Kit in November 2011 for its Biacore system.

Caliper Life Sciences entered into a strategic collaboration with DxTerity Diagnostics in October 2011 to codevelop and comarket their respective LabChip Dx instrument platform and NETA multiplex diagnostic assays.

Anagnostics entered into a collaboration with Sony DADC in November 2011 for production and development of its hybcell tests. Initially, Sony is in charge of the die casting of plastic parts and their functional coating.

Sony DADC entered into a collaboration with Maven Biotechnologies in December 2011 to develop and manufacture smart consumables for Maven’s LFIRE (label-free internal reflection ellipsometry) detection platform.

Sony DADC partnered with Axela in December 2011 to develop and manufacture smart consumables for Axela’s dotLab mX detection system.

In November 2011, Expedeon and Protein Discovery merged.

AmberGen licensed its photocleavable biotin reagent to SomaLogic in November 2011 for use on the SOMAscan (slow off-rate modified aptamer) technology platform.

According to a December 2011 SEC filing, OpGen raised $2.1 million of a $2.3 million offering.

IntegenX announced in December 2011 that it had secured $40 million in Series C funding. The round was led by new investor Essex Woodlands.

Product Introductions

In November 2011, for its Octet platform, ForteBio launched the Dip and Read Anti-GST biosensor and the Amine Reaction Second-Generation biosensor, which allows an alternative biosensor surface for specific ligands.

Bio-Rad Laboratories introduced in December 2011 the Bio-Plex Data Pro software for managing, comparing and visualizing xMAP multiplex immunoassay data sets across multiple instrument runs.
