Luminex signed a teaming agreement with Northrop Grumman in March to collaborate in the creation of next generation biodetectors that will continuously monitor the environment and serve as an early-warning system for the release of potentially harmful airborne agents.

In May, Roche launched the compact GS Junior System DNA Sequencer for small- and medium-sized research labs. It sequences over 25 million bases of DNA in a single 10-hour instrument run, with average read lengths in the range of 400 base pairs.

Genomic services provider Expression Analysis agreed to purchase Pacific Biosciences’ PacBio RS DNA sequencing system, which is expected to be launched in the second half of the year.
